Would you deposit a gift?

Since being in the wedding industry I have been asked by clients on many occasions, how do you let people know that you would prefer monetary gifts in lieu of an actual gift without offending people?.  This is a touchy subject...but there IS a way - there is a cool tool called Deposit a Gift where anyone can make a deposit at anytime.  So whether you are a Wedding Guest, Bridal Shower invitee or want to shower a new Mom-to-Be with a gift for her precious little one, this is a creative way to do it!

A personalize website is created for the "guest of honor" with a customized, memorable and unique URL. Guest can start to load funds to your account via a secure website.  They state that withdrawing money is FREE, in most cases, with no restrictions and is very easy to do.  There are several ways you can CASH OUT - ACH Direct Deposit, International Wire Transfer ($40 Bank Fee),  or Personal Check.

I have not encountered any clients that have used this site, but the next time I am asked about a unique way to ask for cash, I will definitely refer them to this site to research and determine if this is something that will work for them.

If you would like to learn more about this cool tool here is a link to their FAQ's:

February is National Heart Disease Month

February is National Heart Disease Month

Did you know that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women? The American Heart Association created the movement called "Go Red for Women" to bring awareness to the warning signs so that women can act swiftly to get help.

FACT:  Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute!

"Go Red for Women has published warning signs that women should not ignore.  "Sweating. Pressure. Nausea. Jaw pain. Believe it or not, these are all symptoms of a heart attack in women. They are also symptoms that women often brush off as the flu, stress or simply feeling under the weather – which could put their lives in jeopardy" (www.goredforwomen.org).  Ladies, please DO NOT ignore these symptoms!  You should seek help immediately.  It is always better SAFE, than SORRY!

If you experience any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately:

  • Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or goes away and comes back.
  • Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
  • Shortness of breath, with or without chest discomfort.
  • Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
As with men, the most common heart attack symptom in women is chest pain or discomfort. But it’s important to note that women are more likely to experience the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.

There are ways to prevent heart disease:

1. Quit Smoking
2. Avoid second-hand smoke
3. Know your numbers
4. Process out processed foods
5. Get moving
6. Get your friends and family on board
7. Spread awareness

For more information on Heart Disease in women, visit www.goredforwomen.org.  Please share this information with your mother, sister, cousin....or any women in your life  because you may just save a life!

Take care of yourself!

National Popcorn Day - January 19, 2013

Did you know that January 19th is NATIONAL POPCORN DAY?  It's not really known where this "day" originated from, but many believe that it was usually celebrated on or around Super Bowl time. Well, in honor of National Popcorn Day, I thought I would share some ideas of how you could incorporate popcorn into your next event. What do you think of a popcorn bar? Unique right?  I am always thinking of unique ways to enhance events that I plan.
I'm sure you're thinking, what type of events would I setup a popcorn bar for?  What about a Wedding?  The fun, outgoing Bride who wants to share this tasty treat with her guest can have a colorful, flavorful and well displayed bar. Glass Apothecary Jars are great for this idea.  How about a Kids Party?  Display the fluffy snack in pails, tonka trucks or hats...be creative, the kids will love it.  And finally, how about Movie Night?  Invite some friends over, setup your bar with caramel, butter, chocolate and cheese flavored popcorn, or any other wacky flavors you can think of.  Movie Night will be a big hit!
Heavens Touch would love to assist you with your next event and if a popcorn bar is what you need, well I can help you succ"seed"!

Happy Popping

The Perfect Wedding Guide Bridal Show was so much fun. It was exciting to see our name Heavens Touch (Wedding & Event Planner) on the back of the T-Shirts that the Perfect Wedding Guide gave the Brides. They were walking advertisements for the vendors!

Our booth received so many compliments, the Tiffany Blue & Chocolate are still hot colors.

I look forward to working with all the Brides that we met.

Wedding Traditions - Something Old, Something New.....

Sometimes we follow traditions because, well, they're just that, tradition. Have you ever wondered what the meaning of Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue meant? Brides have followed this tradition for centuries.

Each item represents a token of good luck for the Bride. The custom suggest that if all four items are carried by the Bride on her wedding day, she will have a happy marriage.

The Meaning:
  • Something Old - Continuity with the Bride's family and the past. Brides may choose to to wear a locket with their grandparents photo or wear their mother or grandmother's wedding dress.
  • Something New - Optimism and hope for the Bride's new life ahead. The Brides wedding gown is often the something new.
  • Something Borrowed - An item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is supposed to carry over to the new Bride. A piece of jewelry is a common item for Brides to borrow.
  • Something Blue - The color blue had been connected to weddings for centuries as a symbol of love, modesty, fidelity, good luck, purity, and loyalty. Often the blue item is the Brides garter. Brides can also add a blue flower to her bouquet. Modern day brides may wear blue nail polish or blue shoes.

Until the next time...
